MISS O. KAY STILL IN GOOD FORM AT MELBOURNE -MANY RETIREMENTS'

(Rec. 6.30 p.m.) Melbourne, Sept. 2. In the mixed foursome championships played to-day on the Victorian links, rain fell making the course heavy. Miss Oliver Kay (N.Z.) and Jim Ferrier, the hrilliant 18 year-old Sydney star, won their game includmg a record round for a mixed foursomes of 74 which is five strokes better than that of Williams and Miss Kerrigan last year. Miss Kay drove dehghtfully and Ferrier's game was f aultless. Misses McLeod, Susie Tolhurts and Hammond (Australia) and Mesdames Templer and Williams (N.Z.) were scratched owing to indisposition. 82-84-166; I. Whitton and Miss Shirley Tolhurst 167; E. Apperley and Miss O. Lefebvre 80-88-168; Alex. Russell and Mrs. Russell 84-87-171. Ross Sawers and Miss J. Williams (N.Z.) 82-90-172. Concurrently with the foursomes championship, a handicap event was played on the first 18 holes. It was won hy Ross Sawers and Miss J. Wil£t~
= ; . liams in -76 (handicap 6). Miss Wil-! liams is a promising player who will[ improve with experience. The notable Sydney pair, C. H. and;Mrs. Fawcett were runners-up with| 78 (handicap 7). I Miss Betty Gaisford played her us-f ual good game in the mixed foursomesj championship. t~, l : - - ' T
