Algonac, ocjju. Mr. Gar Wood is not taking Mr. S'cott-Paine's challenge for the Harmsworth Trophy lightly. "He may have something," Mr. Wood said. "You know Sir Henry .Seagrave's boat was small and .light, but it certainly gave a good account of itself." Mr. Wood has practically re-built the Miss America X., adding one hundred horse-power to each of the four niotors. He has greatly strengthened the sides. There will be no back seat driver. Mrs. Brenda Scott-Paine will leave the race strictly to the menfolk, notwithstanding two speedboat trophies she holds in her own right. "Of course I'm going to cheer for Fuzzy, but I am not going to advise him to take the credit or discredit of his winning or losing," she said. , She explained the name she calls her husband as "after Kipling's Fuz-zy-Wuzzy," ^ The meehanics to-day finished work on the challenger and challenged, Mr. xxr ^ ^ ^ n-nA Mv ^pnt.L-Pa/inG d6cla.riii2
that the boats are in first-class shape awaiting to-morrow's gun. Mr. Horace E. Dodge, a noted builder and present holder of the gold cup, has announeed that if his Delphine can make 95 miles an hour in the trial to-day he will enter as a third competitor. Mr. Wood has much the fastest boat so far as is known, hut whether the Xmerican can swing the sharp turns witiiout losing a great deal of speed and whether Mr. Scott-Pame can turn his little craft as he claims are questions not answered. A 95 mile an hour boat which could run turns at 75 or 80 miles would have an equal charice, in the opimon of experts, with a 125 mile an hour boat which must slow to a comparative crawl.
