SPRING CARNIVAL
TO-DAY'S ATTRACTIONS The contest proper for the Rotorua Open Golf championship and' the Thermal Cup commences today at the Arikikapakapa course. The elimination rounds were played yesterday and the way is now clear for the qualifying entrants to fight out the issue. Play commences at 7.30 a.m-, and the last contestants will drive off at 10.36. At 2 p.m. in the Government Grounds the ladies' representative hockey team will try conclusions with the Tauranga representatives. Both teams are very confident and the issue is certain to be closely contested'. At 2.45 p.m. at ^rawa Park the Matatua Tribal football representativesi will meet Te Arawa team in a challenge match for the coveted Tainui-Maniapoto Shield. This shield is highly prized by the various Maori cribes and those visitors who have not yet seen a firstclass game of Rugby between friendly Maori teems will have the chance of doing so to-day. The Matatua team hails from the vicinity of Whakatane and the Te Arawas represent Rotorua. There are many generations of rivalry between the two tribes and' no effort will be spared to gain the supremacy to-d'ay. At 7 p.m. to-night in the Dixieland hall a children's fancy dress pariy and dance will be held. There wil1. be daiacing, games and a good supper for the children. Prizes are offered for the best boy's costume, , the best girl's costume and' the best ccsiumes for both sexes that does not cost more than 2s 6d. After supper there will be dancing for the adults until midrught to the strains of the Wonderland Band.
