DRAW FOR ROTORUA TROPHY SPECIAL COMPETITION
SATURDAY'S RESULTS Exeellent entries have been received for the Rotorua Basketball Association's open tournament. No less ■th'an nine teams are coming from outside centres and play will commence at 9.30 a.m. nn Friday, September 1, at the Government Grounds. In order to give the visitors as much play as possible, the competition has been split into two sections and the winners of each section will meet in the final on Saturday afternoon. In order to complete the series play, the rounds will be restricted to 30 minutes for each garrfe. The final game, however, will oceupy the full 40 minutes. The trophy, which is nearly completed will be on show this/ week in the Dolly Varden, Fenton Street. It is a wonderful example of the imagination and resource of the Maori carver. and is certainly unique amongst • New Zealand sporting trophies. The carver, Mr. Pine Taiapa, of the Maori Arts and Crafts School was the recipient of many congratulations when the trophy was inspected by the Rotorua Advancement Committee on Friday evening. Waihou, 10.30 a.m. Seeond Round — Rotorua A v. Whakatane A, 11 a.m. Opotiki B v. Matamata B 11.30 a.m. Paeroa v. Waihou, 12 noon. t Third Round — Rotorua A v. Paeroa, 2 p.m. Opotiki B v. Waihou, 2.30 p.m. Whakatane A v. Matamata B 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2. Fourth Round — Waihou v* Whakatane A, 9.30 a.m. Paeroa v. Opotiki B, 10 a.m. Rotorua A v. The final will be played at 2.30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon between the winners of section A and section B. Saturday's Results The followingv are the results of games played in the Rotorua Basketball Association's championship competition at the Government Gardens on Saturday last. Waratah 29, H.S.O.S. (B) 9. H.S.O.S. (A) 30 Huia 15. Wednesday's Fixtures H.S.O.S. (A) v. Waratah, No.; 1 Court, 2.30 p.m. Tui (A) v. H.S.O.S. (B), No. 2 Court, 2.30 p.m. Aotea and Tui (B) win by default. This will complete the seeond round of the Wednesday competition. The committee will decide at to-night's meeting as to whether another round will be necessary. The decision will appear in the basketball notes in Friday's "Morning Post." Rep. Practice A practice of the B and C representative teams will be held after the games on Wednesday afternoon. The following C team has been selected: N. McKenzie, J. Chaytor, D. Kingon, J. Winslade, J. Tucker, E. Aru, K. Constant, D. Cronin, B. Dorsett.
