ROTORUA CLUB NOTES AND COMMENTS ON LAST WEEK'S RACE WARNING TO RIDERS

(Notes by "

The third road race of the present series of the Rotorua Cycling Club's winter season was decided last S'aturday the weather being ideal, but the times returned were poor. The event was marred by an unfortunate accident, two new riders, B. Martin and H. French, colliding. The first-named received rather severe abrasions. Jack Montague, who was having his second ride of the season, showed great determination by pacing the scratch man all the way and winning by his handicap of a lap.

Gari Head, ridmg a. new bieycle, did well for seven laps, when he encountered misfortune by having two /falls, which put him right out of the running. He appears to require more training. S. Howe rode with Head most of the distance, but seemed to be making hard work of it and with two laps to go he looked a very tired rider. A. Beckett gave a good exhibition of unpaced riding to give Howe and Head two and a-half minutes and eatch them in nine laps. He maintained an even pace throughout, finishing in second place and gaining fastest time. Roy Melton rode his usual good race and was well in line for fastest time when he encountered a large mob of sheep in the last lap and lost nearly three minutes. L. Savage retired early in Saturday's race. In the last four races he has not been riding up to his previous form and it looks as though he has overtrained. A spell from the bike would probably do him good. ' A note of advice to the competitors: "Keep your eyes straight ahead." There is too much looking , around during the races, and if this j continues penalties will have to be imposed.
