St. Louis, Aug. 24. While the toll from an epidemic of sleeping sickness reached 22, St. Louis and its environs were puzzling, the disease was reported in the borderi'ng state of Illinois. There had previously been cases in Oklahama and. Kansas, as well as in other Missouri towns. It has been diagnosed *as encephalitis, a disease known in medical' circles.
