USEFUL BY-PRODUCTS WON. After 10 years of laboratory re.- J : search Dr. Bergius, of Mannheini, Germany, to whom the Nohel Prize was awarded for his method of lique- * .fying coal, has perfected a process •for obtaining sugar from wood, and its- -first practical application is now be-ing made. The crude-wood sugar and molasses can be used for fodder, for making yeast, and for distillation, and it can be further refined to chemj ically pure grape sugar. A numher of by-products are won in the process, including lignine for the making of briquettes and acetic acid.
