SCHOOL CHILDREN'S FANCY DRESS BALL HELD

Oruanui, Wednesday. The Oruanui school children's annual fancy dress dance was held in the meeting house at Oruanui on Saturday night. The function was well attended and in every way was most successful. The fancy costumes were all most attractive and original. The prizewinners were: — Girls' Class: — ."Mr. and Mrs. Nosey Parker," Joyce and Edith Hay; "Witch," Violet Hinahi; "Spring," Florence Karl. Consolation prizes: "Gypsy Girl," Elizabeth Tahahia; "Maori Maiden," Rangi Hunia. Boys' Class : — "Dick Whittington," Ray Taylor; "Red Indian," Steven Borham; "Dick Whittington's Cat," Buster Taylor. Consolation prize: "Jockey," Tommy Taylor. Men: — "King of Hearts," Mr. Rowe; "Mickey Mouse," Mr. Douglas Hay. Ladies : — "Aunt Germina," Mrs. Hay; "Maori Princess," Mrs. Paki. Mr. and Mrs. P. Kinninmont, of Wairakei, and Miss Jones, the Wairakei postmistress, were the. judges. Mr. King, the Oruanui school masfcer, dressed as a black and white pierrot made an excellent master of ceremonies. The proceeds are to be used for library books and sports requisites for the school children.
