THE PROGRAMME ADVANCEMENT COMMITTEE PRESENT REPORT TO COUNCIL CARNIVAL BALL ARRAN GEMENT The report of Ihe Advancement Committee to the Rotorua Borough Couneil 011 Weclnesday evening was as follows: — Motor Signs. — That the council proceed with the erection of "welcome" signs at the borough boundaries on the lines inaicated in the accompanying sketch; the cost of these signs to be approximately £6. Race Day Week-end. That the action of the committee in contributing £1 ls towards the advertising in the Auckland Star of the race day weekend be approved. Throug'i the ed'ort^ of Messrs. Guy, Peterson and Reid, the sum of £26 15s was i'ubseribed and the special week-end excursicn train which the Kailway Depaitment ran over the pcriod arrived in Rotorua with 171 passengers on board. Carnival Week Monday, August 28. — Jazz evening at Dixi eland run by Mr. Pyman on the understanding that if 'this item is included in the carnival programme, 20 per cent. of the net profits to be paid over to the Advancement Committee. Tuesday, August 29. — Golf tournamer.o duriiig. day, Maori concert in the Peerless Hall or Lyric Theatre in the evening. Thirty-three and onethird oi the net profits to be paid to the funds of the committee; the remainder to be divided between the parties running the concert. Weclnesday, August 30 — Golf tournament and hockey match during day, ehildren's party in the evening. Choice of hall to be governed by eircumstances, Mr. Pyman to be in charge of the fixture: 20 per cent. of the net profits 'to be handed to the committee. Thursday, August 31. — Golf tournarnent during day, combined picture entertainment, concert and communIty singing in the Ivlajestic Theatre in the evening. The offer of Rotorua Theatres, Ltd., to hand over 50 per cent. of the profits has been accepted. Friday, Septtmber 1. — Final golf toumament and basketball tournament during day; poster hall in the winter show pavilion in the evening. Messrs. Shalfoon and Pyman have offered to close their own halls on this night and supply the music for the dance; the profits to be divided, 50 per cent. to the committee and 50 per cent. to Messrs. Shalfoon and ( Pyman. Saturday, September 2. — Basket- j ball tournament, hockey match and
Rugby match cluring the day; wrestling exhibition in the winter show pavilion in the evening. Sunday, September 3. — Combined band and vocal concert in the Majestic Theatre. Window Display Competition: — That duiing carnival week, a window display competition be held with two classes'(a) New Zealand made goods; (b) Empire goods; a first and second prize of £1 ls and 10s Gd respectively to be offered for each class and a certificate to be provided for first, second and third in each class. Sunday Concert. — That permission be granted by the council for the conccrt to be held on Sunday, September 3 in the Majcstic Theatre as suggested. Appreciation In adopting the report the council expressed its thanks to Messrs Guy, Petersjon and Reid for raising the sum of £26 15s toward the cost of the excursion train to Rotorua during race week. A vote of thanks was also passsd to Mr. R. H. Reid for a donation ff £5 5s to the carnival funds.
