Whangarei, Wednesday. Mrs. D. G. Gordon, 'of Taihape, the mother of seven children,' suffered a f^acture of the base of the skull and scalp Iacerations when the car in which s'he was being drivep to Whangarei by Mr. W« B. Claris, of Marua (a relative with whom she had holidaying). was struck by the express at Kamo l'evel crossing to-day. The victim is in hospital in a serious condition. The car .was almost over the line when Mrs. Gordon, realising the proximity of the train, called out, causing Mr. Claris, to eas'e his f oot on the accelerator. But for this the car would have escaped a collision.
