JUNIOR SECTION

OUR PETS FIRST PRIZE AWARD. (Killarney, 11. Old Taupo Road.) I have quite a family of pets, which consists of twQ half-Persian kittens, Blackie and C'hinky, a little black and white fox terrier dog, Tess, and a pretty red and white heifer, Rosie. | The kittens and the dog are great mates; they always eat out of the same dish together, and they sleep to_ : gether in the dog's kennel. It is very amusing to see the dog curled up in his kennel on a cold day [ with the two kittens sprawled across him; they are quite at home with one j another; in faet, the dog takes on the , role of protector. One day a strange dog came along when the kittens were some distance I from the house. My dog scampered away over the ground and picked up one of the kittens in her mouth a.nd rushed back with him to safety with the other kitten following behind. I rewarded her with a nice piece of meat which she appreciated very much. A mischievous prank of Tess' is ' rolling the kittens over and over in the wet grass and you would scream j if you saw the kittens looking like a pair of half-drowned rats. Tess' reward for this is a whipping. I could tell you quite a lot more about my kittens and my dog, but space will not allow as I want to write something about my heifer — she is a great pet. When the cows are being fed with hay, I pick up a great armful for | Rosie and call out her name and she : comes straight over and receives her . share by herself. | I could write a lot. more about my pets but I think my letter. will be long | enough.
