Contradictory Orders
A section of the Opotiki Borough Council at the last meeting refused to pass a letter from the mayor advising the workers who had been given notice of dismissal that such notiqe had been cancelfed. An attempt was. made to pass a resolution to the effect that the men would not be paid if they continued to work after 27inst, hut the mayor would not accept the motion. Yesterday, therefore, Grs. Patterson and Webb (members of the Works Committee.) had a personal interview with the foreman and twp of the workers coneerned and informed them that if they continued to work they would do so at their own risk as the council would not pay their wages. The men decided to carry on.
