(Rec. 7.10 p.m.) Paris, July 26. France dramatically advanced the duties on 60 classes of American goods by duties amounting in some cases to as much as 800 per cent. The question is now raised as to whether this breach of the tariff truce does not 'imply a prolonged" trade war. A United States trade attaclie said that American goods would be affect- j ed to the extent of millions of dollars i by the duties which in many cases j were entirely prohibitive. The an- | nouncement first appeared in a jour- I nal * circulating among customs olfi- i cials. It is understood that the' move is intended to counteract the heavy j fall in the value of the dollar.
