DEBUTANTE BALL
BIG PREPAfRATIONS. Suppressed excitement is mounting 'as each day brings the night of August 2 closer to hand — and no wonder, for all R'otorua is keenly interested in this, our first dehutante ball. Of course, one cant be a successful deb. without quite a. good deal of rehearsing, and both in Rotorua and in Whakatane the girls are being carefully trained in their debut. Mrs. A. E. Moore, who has, had extensive experience as a professional producer of theatrical novelties, has the coaching of the debs. well in hand and expresses herself as highly pleased with the progress at the rehearsals. Of the decorations, we shall leave you to see for yourselves, except to say that Irelands emerald green will figure prominently in the colour scheme of things that evening. Let us imagine the scene during the presentation. The 0ffieial party n the stage — the main lights ext'nguished, leaving only a myriad of fairy lights to add its individual toucli to the moment df excited anticipat:on — spotlighs are focussed on the entrance — a fanfare of trumpets and to a processonal march the debs. proceed iu pairs along the red plush carpet to the dais, their white frocks gleaming under the spotlights. A word now about programmes. Souvenir programmes will be presented to each dancer on arrival, and it will be noted that both modern and old-time dancing has been evenly distributed throughout the dance repertoire for the evening. No delay will occur during the supper intervals for two bands have been engaged to keep the hall rolling through each sitting. The presentation will commence punctually at 8.30, so all spectators and dancers are requested to be present in the ballroom a little before the appointed hour. Incidentally, the catering, although being done mainly by the ladies of the ' committee,! will be supervised by experts accustomed to managing exclusive establishments, so tbat this side of the entertainment is in excellent hands. i A little secret may now be revealed — there is a strong possibility that a special claret cup will keep the poultry company that evening.
