London, July 21. General O'Duffy, late Chief Commissioner of the Civic Guard, Dublin, has been appointed the he.ad of a new organisation ealled the National Guard or Blueshirts formed from the old Army Comrades' Association. The guard is described as being entirely free from any political influence and aims at promoting national unity and the suppression of Communism. Street fighting followed the conference at which General O'Duffy was. elected, bodies of young men and women attacking the Blueshirts. When the Civic Guard used batons to disperse the crowd, several were injured.
