Caught Nappiiig When the Central (Transport) Li- I censing Authority gave a decislon in a goods service case at th'e Rotorua Magistrate's Court yesterday morning, Mr. G. T. Wilson, representing the Railways Board, discovered that the licensee could carry sheep and petrol dn competition with the railways to Tauranga. He objected and said that as the appli'cant had not previously provided a continuous service in this connection he had not thought it necessary to specially address th'e authority on the point. The chairman, Sir Stephen Allen, told him he would have to he more careful in future cases. Cycle Rlacing The following handicaps have been declared for a 31i mdle cycle road race to be held hy the Rotorua Amateur Athletic and Cycling Cluh on Saturday afternoon next: L. Savage (scr.), ArBec'kett, R. Melton (45sec.), J. Woolliams, RI Hampton (2min.), S. Howe, C. Head (3min.), and W. Newman (8min.). Heavy Rainfall Very heavy rain was experienced in the lOpotiki district over the weekend. Commencing ahout midda.y on S'aturday rain fell continually nntil ahout midday on Monday, the total fall measuring 2.14 inches. Both the Waioeka and Otara Rivers were high, but no damage is reported. Hohey in Ice Cream At a meeting of the South Canterbury Beekeepers' Association, which was held last weelc an address was given by a Timaru business man on the maUufacture of ice cream, in which honey was used in place of sugar for sweetening and flavouring (says the Timaru Herald) . Members visited the factory and saw experiments carried out, and they were greatly impressed with the results. This was the first known occasion on which honey (in this instance white clover honey) had been used in ice cream, and it was considered that the new method would prove popular on account of the food value of honey. Butter Fat Payments The Te Awamutu Co-operative Dairy Company is making a cash advance to suppliers for June. butter fat at the rate of 9d per lb. for finest grade. Shareholders are credited with an additional halfpenny. The Kakepuku Dairy Company is making an advance of lOd per lb. for finest grado for June supply, and is also making a payment which will bring all -their suppliers up to 8id per lb. for last season's supply.
