O.D.H.S. JUBILEE

COMMITTEE SET UP TO MAK1E PRELIMIN AR Y ARRANGEMENTS A proposal to hold jubilee celebrations in connection with the sixtieth anniversary of the founding of the Opotiki Ddstrict High School is receiving a very large measure of support and at a meeting held recently arrangements were put in teain for the organisation of the function. The m'eeting was under the chairmanship of Mr. E. A. Payne, chairman of the school committee and invitations were extended to two old pupils of the school, the county chairman, Mr. J. H. Reid and the mayor of Opotiki, Mr. G. Moody. Mr. Payhe said that it (was felt that something should be done fittingly to rnark the occasion of the jubilee and the Old Pupils' Association had accordingly been asked to co-operate in the organisation of an appropriate function. The headmaster, Mr. F. G. Kibblewhite, said that he had recently secured a list of a number of schools which had held jubilee celebrations and he suggested that he should circularise these enquiring what form their functions had taken. He thought that it would be possible by this means to secure very useful information in regard to the necessary organisation. Support was promised both by the mayor and the county chairman. Mr. Reid particularly stressed the value of the school and expressed the opinion that very many of the old pupils no.t now living in the district would be glad to re-visit Opotiki for a function of the nature proposed. Further support was also given by Messrs J. T. Tabb and J. Sinclair and on the mo_ tion of the former, it was formally decided to hold jubilee celebrations in October. After some further discussion, Messrs Sinclair, G. Moody, J. H. Reid, J. Moody and J. T. Tabb all volunteered to act on any committee set up and they were accordingly appointed to co-operate with the school committee in the formation of a large and representative committee to proceed with further arrangements.
