desperati: struggle FIVE GERMAN RESIDENTS HOLDING GOOD POSITIONS SHANGHAI SHOCKED

Rec. July 3, 7.55 p.m. Darien, July 3. Official cables confirm the reports that five Germans pirated a Ghinese steamer between Hangku and Shanghai, killing 12 members o'f the crew including the captain and officers. ■ The steamer ran aground near Darien on Saturday morning. The police j immediately arrested three of the men concerned after a desperate struggle and they are now "tracking the others Shanghai, July 3. > The other two men concerned in the piraey and murder in the high seas have been arrested. All five men formerly held good positions in Shang hai. The affair has shocked the foreign section, and the Chinese press declares that the Chinese are not the bandits in this part of the world.
