' * ; ' r . ; t SENSATION IN OTAGO PAN WASHES REVEAL " -- I MOST ASTONISHING RESULTS AN OUNCE TO THE DISH
-By Telegraph — Copyright).
Dunedin, Wednesday. A sensation 'strike of gold at Dead Man's Point, on the Cromwell flats within the last three or four days fbrcihly demonstrates the possibilities of goldmining in this area. When the Bell-KilgoUr strike was made some time ago. Professor Park, of Otago University, theorised that the prospectors had found the bed of an old river. The idea was scouted in many quarters and was allowed to die down, but the most recent strike has conclusively demonstrated the existence of an old river bed as suggested by the Professor. The Bell-Kilgour claim was said to stand at a point on the old bed and ithat this was the. case has been proved by a further strike a mile north of Cromwell near the Molyneaux River. It is on the terminal point of the old bed, according to Professor Park's theory. During the last few days, the wash has improved from two ounces to the ton to 240 ozs. to the ton. The wash was conducted by a newspaper representative in the first instance and by a bank manager in the second. The latter found that the wash of one ounce to the dish reported by the pressman was more than confirmed hy his own result of over one ounce to the dish. It is suggested that £500,000 per aere for 1000 acres flanking the river bed will revive mining in Central Otago to an extent never previously contemplated. Dead Man's Point claim promises better than any other claim in the history of goldmining in the district. A singular fact, demonstrating Pro- [ fessor Park's theory, is that fine gold taken from Dead Man's Point is similar in every respeet to specimens i taken from the Bell-Kilgour claim. i The fact is vouched for by the manager of the Bell-Kilgour claim.
