(Press Assn.
SCHEME FOR CONTROL OF MARKETS OPPOSED IN SOUTH
— By Telegraph — Copyright).
Christchurch, Friday. Emphatic opposition of. the Sinclair .plan to control the price of butter on local markets was expressed .to-day by Mr. C. C. Agar, the new- ■ ly elected member of tbe Dairy Conjtrol Board, and managing director of j the Taitapu Dairy Company. "Nob'ody, to my knowledge, would sell hutter below the value on the market or anywhere else," said. Mr. jAgar, "and therefore, the object of !the scheme is to maintain a higher price from the consumers in New Zealand, than the commodity is worth. I I think that neither the public nor the | Government will stand for this. | "The only other objective of the i scheme would be that the North Is- ! land produeers desire to share. the ibenefits of the South Island local marjkets. I doubt whethey the South Is- | land produeers would be silly enough | to fall in with this suggestion. ! "I believe it is the duty o'f repre- | sentatives of the produeers to obtain | as high a price as the commodity is ! worth, but in these times of dire distress, I am opposed fo any exploitatiqn of any section of the community." All other representatives of the dairy industry agreed with Mr. Agar. One expressed the opinion that the South Island should not be asked to support the North Island, and as the North Island had greater- parity, that. was what the scheme would amount to. ^ '
