ATTENTION TO TRAINING STILL NECESSARY BY RIDERS NOTES ON PERFORMANCES

(Notes by '

The R.A.A. and C.C. held the fi"ch road race of the season on Saturday. Riding conditions were ideal and the times registered showed a marl.ed improvement. Laclc of trainmg is still a fault and the 21 miles on i aturday demonstrated this deficier. :y. The back-markers had their work cut out to catch the limit men but H. :npton and Savage caught Head : nd S. Howe early in the race and tL.se four rode together until the enc of the eight lap but in spite of the i'ast pace they set, the limit boys l.eld most of their advantage. A. Beckett in his third ride on Saturday did well to secure fi 'st honours, winning from Melton by about 15 yards. Melton is riding very well. Ile was unfortunate in crashing but in spite of this, he set off and caught Beckett. N. Howe rode a good race and had a hard fight, having practically no help until the last two laps. S. Howe will not show any improvement unless he trains more intensively. C. Head found the pace a !/'; hot for him in the last two lar.s, tho same applying to R. Hampton. L. Savage is undoubtedly the club's best boy. He left Hampton, S. Howe and Head in the ninth lap, securing fastest time, completing the coursc • in 62 minutes 9 seconds. Five raees ago he was on the limit, last Saturday he was on scratch. He has secured fastest time on three occasions r id it looks as if he will be-.the club's scratch marker. Ile is a fine example to some of the 'other rid'ers— he trains.. His is a truly fine performance. Following are the points of the leaders in the present series. L. Savage, R. Melton, 18 points; A. Beckett, 14. ' For fastest times L. Savage is leading with 9 points with S. Howe and C. Head 3 points each.
