A BRITISH DRIVE

BEDFORD MOTOR TRUCK FLEET TOURING DISTRICT To bring opportunity to the door of those dnterested in commercial motor vehicles is the purpose behind the despatch from Wellington of a fleet of four of the British Bedford motor trucks, each of a different chassis type. Bedford trucks are made by Vauxhall Motors, Ltd., Luton, Bedfordshire, England, and Spedding and Son., Ltd., iare the Rotorua agents. The fleet reached Rotorua on Saturday in the course of a tour wihich will embrac'e the whole of the North Island. Bedford trucks are already operating in -this district and are giving complete satisfaction to the users. They are, however, advuntageous to both vendors and p'rospective customers in placing side by side the various types of chassis and bodies in that com parisons may be made and, the typ'e best suited for the particular class of work to ibe performed selected. The lightest type exhibited is the 10-12 cwt. express chassis, which carries (a goods delivery van body. Of this anodel, 50 were sold in New Zealand to four customers, the largest order, 28, coming from the Government. Th'e next step is the lh ton chassis fitted with an ordinary truck body. Then come two 2J-ton chassis, one with 131in. wheelbase and the other with 157dn. wheelbase. The latter is fitted with an ordinary truck body, while the f ormer is fittsd with a truck body supplemented by the a'ttachment of a three-way hydriaulic hoist. In demonstration this hoist worked perfectly. It enables the load to be tipped to either side or to the rear as desired and must be a boon to those carrying out road-making or main(tenarice works. The trucks are attractively painted blue wiith lettering in goldj respective prices land particulars being set out so that he who runs may read. The bodies were all constructed at the Petone works, New Zealand woods al'one being used in the woodwork. The convoy left Rotorua yesterday morning for Whakatane and Gis,borrie.* '
