WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

WAIOTAHI BRANCH HOLDS MEMBERS' DAY The Waiotahi Women's Institute held a members' day last Wednesday, most of the members being present. Mrs. Jeffrey presided over the first portion of the meeting while the routine business was being dealt with. A discussion took place in connection with the sending of a delegate to the New Zealand Council, to be held in Christchurch and it was resolved to send a representative. Mrs. Debreceny and Miss E. Abbot accepted no'mination and a vote was taken which resulted in Miss Abbot being appointed. The members then took charge and Mrs. Du Pontet was asked to take' the chair. A roll call, sponge cake fillings, had been written by the mexnbers. A nut loaf competition was won by Mrs. W. Looney against a number of competitors. Mrs. Toone gave an account of a visit paid to the Wellington Milk Depot, and Mrs. Fraser demonstrated to an interested meeting beaten brass work and exhibited several fine specimens of her.handiwork. A competition, the musical wedding, arranged by Mrs. White and Mrs. Burke caused much amusement, Mrs. Marx and Mrs. Jessop tying for first place with 22 points out of 25. The stall was in charge of Mesdames Clayton, Reeve, and Toone, the usual brisk trade being done. Hostesses for the afternoon tea were Mesdames Debreceny and Toone, Misses E. Abbot and J. Martin. Mr. S'aunders, of Kutarere, lent for exhibition,. a cushion made by his daughter, Mrs". W. Torrie, a member of the Gisborne Institute. The cushion was made of sugar bag, embroidered in wool and was very much admired. The design was the Union Jack and British Bulldog with the W.I. badge in one corner.
