Dunedin, Saturday. The weather was fine but' dull for the second match between New Zealand and Australian Universities, played- at Carisbrook. Thp ground was in good order. A light hxeeze favoured nedth'er side. The teains were: — Australia, — Laurie; Kennedy, capt.; Westfield, Rowe; Lowndes, Rees; Pearson;, Emerson, Theodore, Mackey, Booth, McWilliamj Harris, Robertson, Elias. New Zealand: Ruff, Dunne, Caughey, Uttley; Fookes, Mulvihill; Rae; Andrews, Drake, Roherts, Hamilton, Hartnell, Diedrich (capt.), Service Edwards. Oaughey opened with' a dash to the Aqstrajian fi^nie, but Rovje cleared with ia nice dribble down the side. Play continued in the New Zealand half, and Rowe nearly scored, but was given a had pass. New Zealand continued def ending, and the Australian forwards, hy loose rushes, gained much ground. The New Zealand backs had to employ the linekick to relieve the pressure. Westfield had an nnsuccessful shot at goal from a good position, and Rae started a nippy rush, which ended at halfway. When the Australian passing movement hroke down, Andrews i snapped up the ball just in the Aus- j tralian half. He ran for the line and succeeded in scoring. Ruff failed to convert. Play was now transf erred to the Ai?)'j(tri^ia,n half. Andrews mad© a rush for the line, hut was held up, and a scrum was ordered. Australia was penalised, :and Rae kieked an easy goal. Rae, Mulvihill, Fookes, Caughey and Uttley got away" from the kickoff, and Uttley passed in to Fookes, but a forward pass stopped the movement. However, a moment later Rae sent the ball to Mulvihill, to Uttley, who scored at the corner. Ruff converted. The eoncluding stages of the spell were exciting. Kennedy was grassed a few yards from the line., bnt halftime arrived with the score — New Zealand 11, Australia 0. In the second spell, a penalty to New Zealand at the Australian 25 line gave Ruff a chance, and he kicked a good goal. Australia were superior in the lineouts. The standard of football was not up to that of the first spell. Dunne made a determined hreak, and fended off one opponent, bnt was grassed. Play livened up, and Fookes secured the ball and ran Dunne into position. The winger scored in good style and Ruff converted. A great rush by Fookes was nullified by a had pass from Mulvihill to Dunne. Then Service picked up the ball when Mulvihill lost it and scored. Ruff failed to convert. Edwards started the next rnove, and passed to Uttley, who scored. 'Ruff failed, and the game ended with the scores — New Zealand 25, Australia 0.
