VALEDICTORY
MR. AND MRS. F. PLATT On Wednesday evening members of Knox Presbyterian Church' gathered together to bid farewell to Mr. and Mrs. Fred Platt who are leaving the district for Auckland. During the evening Miss C. Schofield sang several songs and Mr. J. Pearson and Mr. Litchwark rendered a 'cello and violin duet. Mr. G. Owen Jcnes delighted the audience with an orlginal monologuei Later in the evening, Mr. W. McFarland, session clerk, on behalf of the church, presented Mr. and Mrs. Platt with a solid leather suit case and a set of pyrex ware, expressing tiie general regret at Mr. and Mrs. Flatt's departure; their work in the Sunday School and church' was greatly appreciated and their loss would leave a gap which it would be very difiicult to fill. Rev. Lilburn and other adherents voiced similar appreciation. Mr. Platt expressed the regret felt by himself and his wife at their departure from Whakatane and the fact that they were leaving all the friends they had made. Supper was served by the ladies after which the evening closed with Auld Lang Syne.
