f EXCHANGE OF DEFENCE I ' DEPT. SECTIONS CONSIDERED. ' NEW COUNCIL MEETS.

The following were present at the meeting of the Opotiki Borough Council iheld on Tuesday everiing. — His Worship the . Mayor (Mr. G. S. Moody), Crs'. J. J. Moody, S. Patterson, E. Webb, S. Shalfoon, F. J. Short, P. Anderson and J. Maine. As the result of a request from the Opotiki Rugby Union that the council board up th'e grandstand on the reserve, Cr. Short moved that as the Domain fund was in credit the works committee he instrUcted to carry out the work. The council deeided accordingly. With reference to the negotiations with the Defence Department for an exchange of the section' on which the drill hall stood for certain other sections, the clerk read a letter from the Defence Department refusing theoffer, but he reported that subsequently Major Bell had conferred with the Mayor and several councillors of th'e old council and as a result they had recommended the new council to make an effort to exchange certain other ■sections for the northern section of the drill hall property. • The council agreed toi such an exchange. The traffic inspector's report was approved.
