THE REFERENDUM
VALIDITY QUESTIONED BEFORE FULL GOURT Rec. May 25, 9.5.5 p.m. Sydney, May 25. A claim regarding the validity of the recent Legislative Council refer- ' endum began to-day in the State Full ' Court hefore Justices Harvey, LongInnes and Davidson. There was a formidable array of counsel, three 1 King's Counsel, appearing for each : side. •- Mr. Loxton, K.C., for the plaintiff, ' substantially claimed that there had not been a proper submission of the refer endum to the people, who had not been properly informed of the de- 1 taiis of the bill for the reform of the Legislative Council. Mr. justice Davidson at one stage interposed: "Would it not be an adequate submission if the electqrs were told as they were, 'You may see a copy of this bill in such and such a plaee,' or do you argue that every elector jnust see a copy of the bill?" Mr. Loxton: "I claim that mpre must he dpne tbian was done at this election." The hearing was adjourped.
