ROTORUA ATHLETIC AND AXEMEN'S CLUB

BIG PROGRAMME FOR THE JUNE MEETING A f orecast of events shows that the Rotorua Athletie and Axemen's Club will put on a particularly fine programme for the June meeting. It has sbeen arranged to hold the chopping carnival on the vacant sectioii adjoining the new show building which ; will prove a Very popular move. .The ground is sheltered from the cold .wind by the railway plantation and is right in the heart of the town, hard facts which should show their effect upon the gate takings. Further it is ithe intention of the club to provide seating accommodation and loud speakers will announce the results of the various competitions. One big step forward is the installation of the electrie judging machine, a New Zealand invention patented by Messrs Olliver and Keast. This is a guarantee of aceuracy and impartiality which will be appreciated hy public and competitors alilce. . With its growing importance the club is attracting the very best of New Zealand's axemen and when that is admitted it is safe to say some of the world's finest will be seen in June. The popularity of chopping may be gauged from the fact that there are no fewer than 200 cltibs in the. Dominion and Rotorua is right in the front rank. The club also caters for good athletie sport and is now drawing to Rotorua some of the leading performers on the running and cycling trade. A big athletie meeting will he staged in the near future and will be eagerly looked forward to. It is expected! that the axemen's carnival next month will bring a great number of competitors- into Rotorua.
