FAREWELLED BY RESIDENTS OF OHINEMUTU VILLAGE NGATI WHAKAUE ESTEEM The respect in which Mr. R. W. Wafle, late House Manager of King George V. Hospital is held by members of the Ngati Whakaue was. demonstrated at a farewell function aecorded him last evening at Ohinemutu when he was presented with a fountain pen and asked to accept a rug on behalf of his wife, who, unfortunately, was not able to be present. Addressing Mr. Wade, the first speaker, Mr. Hautahi Waaka thanked him for the kindly interest which" he had at all times displayed towards members of the tribe and the people of Ohinemutu in partieular and expressed regret at his departure. His practical assistanee and sympathy had been much appreciated and the speaker said he had been asked by the people of the village to make Mr. Wade a presentatioii in some small token of their esteem. Speaking on behalf of the members of the Ohinemutu S'wimming Club, Mr. D. King said that Mr. Wade had always taken a keen interest in the activities of the club and in many ways had proved himself a valuable supporter. The members of the club desired that he should accept a tobaceo barrel in order that he might have some small token to perpetuate his interest in the club. Mr. Wade Replies Rep lying, Mr. Wade thanked those present for the presentations which had been' made to himself and his wife and assured his hearers that the warmth of the farewell extended to them both by the people of Ohinemutu would forever he one of their most pleasant memories. Any small service which he had been able to aceord the Ngati Whakaue had been greatly exaggerated by the previous speakers. However any little service which he had done had been the result of his regard for the members ' of the tribe to whom he was sorry • to bid farewell.
