WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

Our Own Correspondent) .

OPOTIKI BRANCH GIVES PLAY AND ADDRESS

(From

There was a good attendance at the meeting of the Opotiki Women's Institute on Saturday evening, Mrs. ■ C. J. Fox presidi'ng in the absehce of Mrs. Cooper. After the general business .was dealt with and five new members had been enrolled the dra- ' matie circle gave a play eiltitled f "Violet Tea. Rooms," in which the following ladies took part: — Mesdames I. Morrell, I. Steele, G. Vanstone, W. Seott, Misses L. Bennett, E. Bridge and J. Kelly. After the play a roll call "Suggestions for Improving the Institute" r was held. It would appear from the small response that members are very well satisfied with the institute as it ' is, and there were considerably more fines than suggestions forthcoming. Mr. I. Morrell, traffic inspector, gave an interesting address on "Rul- | es of the Road." The address was quite a short one, so possibly Mr. ' Morrell finds it easier to control traffic than address ladies' meetings. After supper, Mrs. Price was announced as the winner of the chrysanthemum section of the gardening • circle's competition, and Mrs. E. Young of the shrub section. ; The hostesses for the evening ' were Mesdames A. Vanstone, I. Morrell, J. Hughes, A. McMillan, J. White and H. Hndson. Quite a large number of parcels was brought by members for pre.sentation to Mrs. Cooper, their pre- , sident, whose house was recently burnt with all its contents.
