HIGHER STANDARD OF ERUDITION TO BE INTRODUCED

-By Telegraph — Copyright).

Rec. May 12. London, May 11. A White Paper states that the Government has decided in favour of the reform of the Metropolitan Police on lines of the Commissioner's (Air Marshal Lord Trenchard) report recommending a higher standard of erudition and accordingly it is proposed that a certain number of youths be recruited by a system of competitive selection for higher posts. A police college is being established for the training of candi- ' dates. The marked line of cleavage between the criminal investigation department and the rest of the police is to disappear. The Government hopes for a substantial economy in man power as the result of the reforms.
