INFOIRMATION GIYEN TO MARINERS. Copies of meteorological chisrts, ocean current charts, and books about tfce weather, together with examples of isimpl-e weather charts that can be I drawn at sea may be consulted at the new Port Meteorologiical Offiee in Lon- { don. The daily weather report, ice j information, and other notices affectj ing shipping are shown there, and the | error of any ship's barometer may be la-scertained hy comparison with a standard instrument. This office was at first housed in a hut, belonging to the Port of London j Authority, at the Royal Albert Dock up till 1930, later being transferred to its present position on the first floor of the P.L.A. Building on th'e south side of the King George V. dock. Thus ships' cap-tains and oificer.s have a bnanch of the marine division of the Meteorological Office situated actually in close touch' with the docks, and easy of access for voluntary marine meteorological ohservers. A plan is given to show the exact position of the new Port Meteorological Office, which has already heen visited by a large number of captains and officers of observing ships. The office is in charge of a retired captain of the Merchant Navy.
