RELIEF WORKER SENTENCED FOR ASSAULT ON MATE

Christchurch, Monday. In the Supreme Court, as a sequel to the fatality at relief works, Clarence George Gibson (43), married, for assaulting George Christopher Johan Bank, was sentenced to seven days' imprisonment. As the sentence started at the beginning of the session only one day remains to he served. Gibson, wh'o was one of a gang of relief workers, hecame engaged ih an altercation with Bank who subsequently died in hospital from injuries allegedly caused in a scuffle. Gibson . pleaded provocation and counsel sought to show that the injuries were caused hy a fall.
