AUSTitALIAN RULE WILL BE REJECTED BY j M.C.C. "UNTHINKABLE ADMISSION"
— By Telegraph — Copyright).
|(Rec. May 3.) Lqndon, May 2. County kricket competitions will open to-mojrrow. The newfepapers are wondering whether Larwood will adopt bodyline bowling-. The Mirrhr considers that the M;ary lehone Cric^et Cluh is certain to reject the Australian rule as the acceptance wduld be tantamount to an admission that Englishmen resorted to unfair tactics, which is unthinkahle. The rule isj unnecessary in England, because it has never been suggested here that any howler intends to injure the batsman. The rule as adopted by the AustraT lian Board of Control, reads. — "Any hall delivered which, in the opinion of the umpire, is jbowled at the batsman with intent to intimidate or injure him, shall be considered unfair; a 'no-ball' shall be called and the bowler shall be notjfied of the reasoh. If the offence- be'irepeated hy the same howler in the same innings he shall be immediately instructed hy the umpire to cease howling, and the over shall he regarded as comp'leted. Such howler shall not agaiii be permitted to howl during the course of the innings then in progress."
