BENCH AND BAR

IMPRESSIVE TRIBUTES TO SIR ALEXANDER GRAY Wellington, Monday. Impressive tributes were paid in the Supreme Court to-day by Bench ■ and Bar to the admirable qualities of - the late Sir A. Gray. The speakers on behalf of the Bar were Mr. C. H. Treadwell vice-presi-dent of the New Zealand Law Society, and Mr. E. P. Hay, president of the Wellington District Law Society. The Chief Justice (Sir M. Myers), who spoke on behalf of the Bench, said all knew Sir A. Gray's sterling qualities and upright character, and when in January last he had had a Knighthood conferred on him by the • King it was universally acclaimed as an honour which by his. distinguished career and his service to the profession and the community had been ;worthily earned. The legal profession had lost a wise counsellor and an upright trusty leader whose place would be exceedingly difficult to fill.
