SEASON'S PROSPECTS

"Stieks.")

PROBABLY MOST MOMENTOUS OF GAME IN ROTORUA. STRENGTH OF CLUBS.

(Notes by

With the commencement of the 1933 la.dies' hockey 'season to-morrow, at the Government grounds, it is anticipated in official circles that the next few months wll prove the most momentous and it is hoped, suceessful in the history of the Rotorua Ladies' Hockey Association. As i3 fairly generally known by local followers of the game, the association has been striving for a number of years to secure the allocation of the annual Dominion tournament, which is usually held in August-September each year. Reliable information received from pronrinent officials in Wellington indicate that this year the long desired honour will probably be conferred upon Rotorua should the local association find itself in a position to make application for the tourney. The allocation of such a tournament to Rotorua is confidently expeeted to ensure an influx of between 500 and 1000 players and supporters to the town for over a week during the months mentioned and there is no doubt that it would prove one of the most welcome and valuable fixtures which has been held in the district for many years. The association is therefore extremely anxious to make the suggestion an accomplished fact, but has naturally to survey very closely its financial p'osition to accept such an important fixture. . The importance with which' the Rotorua Borough Council view the project was recently demonstrated by a generous olfer of assistance and in an endeavour to assist a kindred sport and the town generally, the Rotorua Basketball Association has also promised billets for the visiting players. The exceptional advertising and financial oenefit which such a tournament would mean to the town needs little explanation and every endeavour and assistance to the local association should be provided by the Rotorua community to carry the' project to a suceessful conclusion. In this direction the various sections of the? public will shortly be provided v/ith an opp'ortunity to lend this assistance, and the sponsor3 of th'e scheme are confident that the public will not be found wanting in a progressive community spirit.
