WINTER GALES PREVENT SEARCH IN THE TARARUAS IN SERIOUS' PLIGHT

Masterton, Sunday. The citizens search committee took active steps to-day to despatch search parties into the Tararuas in quest of the four missing trampers. One. party left to-day for Mitre Flat, and another is setting ont to-morrow for the same place via a diiferent route, and on Tnesday a base camp is to be established at the Flat. The Wairarapa Tramping Club party, which set out on Saturday for the headwaters of the Ruamahanga River, was blocked by the flooded stream. The weather last night was very wild, heavy rain falling, accompanied by thunder storms and severe gales. The plight of the missing trampers must be serious.
