An important step to rehabilitate British industry is foreshadowed by the announcement of details of a £200,000,000 scheme to rationalise the iron and steel industry. Associations are being formed to deal with special products, like pig iron and tin plates, and will he conferolled by a central body incorporated hy Royal charter. Other details include advisory committees on wages, transport and research. Income will he derived from an annual levy, and the corporation will facilitate desirable amalgama.tions to promote exports and negotiate with foreign Governments and industries. Mr. Neville Chamberlain, Chancellor of the Exehequer, writes that the scheme is a real step forward, though only the first stage has heen reach'ed. The Government is ready to give support as it is necessary.
