SULKY AND SADDLE

"Misere.")

* te Aroha trots / P. SMITH HAS STRONG HAND IN CUP EYENT A TRIPLE BIRACKET

(Notes by '

To-day will see the arinual meeting of *the Te Aroha Trotting Club and though' the full mile course is not altogether popular with the trotting fraternity, yet some good raeing should be witnessed. The first race for decision is the • . W&itoa Handieap 3.6 gait over the ten furlongs. ' . ' . Homebrew rapi well here last year and Jester showed considerable improve- | ment at Thames. Our Summer is not l a bad sort if she goes off while Red Hope and Shining Metal, especially the latter, are not bad. Lislea, off 36, should have her work cut out to beat Te Mahanga and Gold Seam went better than was expected. Mythorpe for Sam Darrah might'surprise but is a long way back. The best read: — Jester Homebrew Shining Metal from. — WAITOA HANDICAP, ljm. Limit 3.6. Aircraft, Chancellor, Free Gift, Home Brew, Jester, Min Bells, Maud Chenault, Our Summer, Red Hope, Shining Metal, Worthy Chief, Young Travis, limit; Lislea, 36yds, Te Mahanga, 36; Gold Seam 48; Mythorpe, 108. * * ic * The 3.50 twelve furlong race for the legitimates has the Devil's Own engaged and they are a motley lot. Golden Huia, who trotted nicely both days at Thames, is on the limit as is Indolent who went a couple of good races at Claudelands earlier in the year. Mountain Sun, who is one of Togo Lee's istable, shaped promisingly in a heat at Epsom. Otara has changed ownership and1 is now in Sid August's hands and may do better. Peter Abdallah, Stardown and Worthy Kate are fair sorts. Autumn Lu and ICuini are on 36 and and Kuini rea.ds the better and should lick Golden Eagle. Summertime and Wiriwhata are on 72yds .and, of the two, Wiriwhata's fourth' at Thames appeals. Mattie Herbilwyn has a hard row to hoe off 120 and the best read Kuini Mountain Sun Wiriwhata from. — ELSTOW HANDICAP, 15 m. Limit 3.50. Golden Huia, Indolent, Mountain Sun, Otara, Peter Abdallah, Stardown, Worthy Kate, limit; Autumn Lu, Kuini, 36yds; Golden Eagle, 48; Summertime 72; Wiriwhata 72; Mattie Herbilwyn, 120. * * * There are several good sorts engaged in the Manawaru Handieap of 15 miles at a 3.28 bat. Pukemiro, a winner last week, is on the limit and •so is Poi who was taken over from Jim Corrigan 'by Fred Smith. Rangihau went well at Parawai but Silver Bingen did not. Willie Derby is a new entry this season from August. If Free Logan goes off right, he will be hard and Lady Coronado was going • well for fourth at Thames. Our Peter is very fast but bobbles at ,the post and may not be ready. Dad's Hope is one to have on one's side but Realty will have to stage a "Brent Zolock"

reversal of form to be in it. The best appear to be Free Logan Rangihau Poi from. — MANAWARU HANDICAP l|m.Limit 3.28. Pukemiro, Poi, Rangihau, Silver Bingen, Willie Derby, limit; Free Logan, Lady Coronad'o, 12yds bhd; Our Peter 24, Dad's Hope 36, Realty 36. * sfe ^ The Te Aroha Cup sees Fred Smith with a triple bracket. Pegiaway, who is having his first two miler for a season or so, Kewpie's Guy, making a reappearance, and Pageant, the Thames consistent winner. These are sure to play a big part in monopolising the betting but it is by no means certain that they will be the only ones in it. Great Delight failed both days from lack of stamina and should do better in the sprint. Prince Pedro was the unlucky 'horse both days at Thames and what lowers his-colours (given a fair passage) should be very hard. Brent Zolock can go two miles and might upset the pot once again. Kewpie's Triumph may find the long straight a, bit too far for his final dash while Brentlight should again be in a place. First Flight likes this course and if she goes away will take a lot of heading off. Auto Maehine has plenty to make up but might do it. The most prominent may be Prince Pedro First Flight Smith's Elect.

from. — TE AROHA HANDICAP, 2 m. Limit 4.34. Great Delight, Prince Pedro, Pegaway, limit; Brent Zolock, 12yds; Kewpie's Triumph, 24; Brentlight, 48; First Flight 60; Kewpie's Guy, 60; Pageant 72; Auto Maehine 84. 4 * * There is little difference between the Ruakaka Handieap and the Manawaru and Waitoa, and form in these two will go a long way to deciding the public fancy in this. Homebrew seems the best of the limit division; Te Mahanga is on 12 by herself and Gold Seam will have been seen out earlier. Cogent is worth a note for he was finishing on like a train on Saturday. Donee ran a third but is not sound while Peter Grattan and Mythorpe do not look the part. It is likely that the favourites will be Te Mahanga Our Summer Cogent from. — RUAKAKA HANDICAP, 15m. Limit 3.42. Free Gift, Home Brew, Min Bells, Our Summer, Worthy Chief, limit; Te Mahanga, 12yds bhd; Gold Seam 24; May Chenault, 24; Betterwin, 36; Cogent, 36; Donee 36; Peter Grattan, 36; Mythorpe 96. * * * There are only five in the square gaiters' Waihou Handieap and of these the best may be Billy Carbine Bessie Parrish Zanzibar from. —

WAIHOU HANDICAP, 15m. Limit 3.36. Billy Carbine, limit; Marble Star, 12yds bhd; Bessie Parrish 24, Zanzibar 36, Explosion 72. * * * There are just ten in the Hot Springs Handieap with Mythorpe having her third appearance. Mazda with Fred Smith behind the reins will be well supported but may find her hardest opponents to be Eleawah, Francis Lincoln, Homeward and Pukemiro. The final choice may rest on — Mazda Francisf Lincoln Homeward ■ from. — HOT SPRINGS HANDICAP, 15m. Limit 3.33. Mazda, Mythorpe, Wee Maehine, limit; Eleawah, 24yds bhd; Rey de Quest 24; Francis Lincoln 36; Jackie Thorpe 48, Homeward 60, Pukemiro, 60; Lady Coronado 72. * * * The Farewell will be a good race and earlier form will tell a tale or tv/o. The Smith stable has Carnui, Kewpie's Guy and Pageant and the place maehine will see them very short. However the winner may be from elsewhere and! at present those which' appeal are Great Parrish Prince Pedro Smith's elect. from. — FAREWELL HANDICAP, lim. Limit 2.47. Carnui, Great Delight, Prince Pedro, limit; Brentlight, 12yds bhd; Great Parrish 12; Direct Morning, 24; Kewpie's Triumph, 24; Pageant 24; Ena- . wah 36, Brent Zolock 36.
