rugby union ANNUAL MEETING ELECTS OFFICERS FOR COMING | YEAR . | PRESIDENT'S REPORT
The annual general meeting of the j Te Puke Rugby Union was held in the Parish' Ha.ll on Tuesday night, there j being a large number of players and j followers of the giame in attendance. \ The retiring president, Mr. J. Brown, | was unable to be present, and Mr. H. j O. Cooney was voted to the chair. The report of the retiring president was then read, and was as fol- | lows : — I "Gentlemen: I have pleasure in submitting the ballance sheet covering laist season's operations. We commenced the season with a credit balance of £80 and at the end of the football year our balance wia.s reduded to £30. i This is accounted for by a shrinkage in club football gates of £10, improvementis to seating accommodation £16, payment of an extra year's rent £20 removal of the concrete cricket pitch £8, and the smaller affiliation fees charged to clubs £5. The Huamai Club was successful in winning both the senior and the junior competitions,
and they are to be congratulated on their wins. Our representative team was beaten early dn the season in a Shield match, and although they. played creditably throughout the representative fixtures they were not quite up to the standard of the previous year. A seven-a-side team visited Kaponga at Easter time and they were runners-up in the competition, in which teams from various parts of the North Isliand took part. I thank the members for their support duying the year and I trust that the present season will be a prosperous and a successful one." The secretary then read the balance sheet for the past season, and on the motion of Mr. A. Jamieson, 'seconded by Mr. H. E. Butcher, the report and balance sheet were approved and adopted. The election of officers for the coming season resulted. — Patron, Mr. J. P. Mahoney; president, Mr. J. Brown; vice-presidents, Messrs T. 9Ei. Plalmer, J. T. Eccleton and G. Sweetman; auditor, Mr. W. E. Hookey; secretary and treasurer, Mr. A. Cummings.
'Rules Amended A motion was then brought forward by Mr. Jamieson and seconded by Mr. C. Heather, that Rule 22, which deals with the number and class of persons entitled to vote on the election of officers at annual general meetings of the union, be amended to igive.voting power to the previous year's officers, members of the union, and members of-the various clubis, in the union. An amendment was moved by Mr. Butcher and seconded by Mr. J. S. McKenzie, that all persons present iat annual general meetings, whether members of the union 'and of clubs or not, be entitled to vote on the election of officers. After considerable discuission, the amendment and the original motion were put to the meeting, and a show of hands resulted in the amendment being carried by la small ityTwo further variations in the rules were proposed by Mr. Jamieson and were duly carried, these being, firstly, that the management committee have the righ't to receive or reject any applieation for (affiliation, and secondly, that the affiliation fees be increased from £1 ls for senior clubs and 2/6 for juniors to £1 ls for seniors and 10/6 for juniors. Mr. T. E. Palmer then took the chair for the purpos.e of calling for nominations for the nine members on the management committee. Twelve nominations were received, and the election resulted: — Messrs A. Snodgrass, J. Courteney, H. O. Cooney, C| Heather, E. Morton, A. Jamieson, B. Rice, J. Conway and R. J. McPike. This coneluded th.a business of the general meeting; the newly-eiected management committee then eonsidered an applidation for affiliation by a proposed Rangiuru team, but it was decided to leave final decision on this matter till the next meeting of the committee.
