SERIOUS POSITION

DECREASE IN ADVANCES Wellington, Wednesday. A member of a large exporting firm stated that there is every prospect of advances made on butterfat being redueed to 4d or 5d' per 1b as compared with 6d and 7d per Ih as paid out on March 20. Cablegrams received as far hack as March 22 indicated that unless a quota is arranged promptly there is fear of a debacle. The opinion of the majority of the trade in London was that New Zealand should agree to limit the quotas promptly, thus curtailing European imports immediately. The increased prices would more than compensate and ensure a better market for Dominion outputs over the coming years.
