VERY 'SUCCESSFUL YEAR RECORDED IN REPORT SOCIAL A)CTIYITIEjSj The following report was" read by the president of the Opotiki branch of the W.D.F.U. at the annual general meeting which was held on Tuesday afternoon. "Our braneh has gone ahead considerably and a junior branch was form•ed on Saturday, Octoher .15, 1932 and membership iisi increasing very satisfactorily. The memhers are .showing lively interest in the workin'g of our* branch and have held two successful card and dancing evenings in aid of their funds. "Owing to the resignation of Mrs. S. Mjaxwell as Isecretary in July, Mrs. H. K. Hollard was eleeted to .fill^the vacancy for the remaining year. "The past year has been most successful financially. owing to the.holding- of the card land dance evenings and I would .specially like to thank those memhers and friend's who by their willing work. made these .functions the .success -that they were. "We have been aj)le. to helpi several of^Hr members wha have had serious

illnesses An the family and we also sent £14 17s to the Wairoa Earthquake Fund to be used for W.D.F.U. members and their families. A donation of £4 16s was also made to the Opotiki Girl Cuides to help their organisation and assistance was given to a family in poor circumstances who had. a serious illness in their home; we were ia.lso able to send a delegate to the Auckland conference. There have been several useful demonstrations; given during th'e year and occasional musical afternoons which were much enjoyed made a pleasant change while competitions which were held at rnost meetings helped to keep members interested. The annual picnic was held recently on Waiotahi Beach under beautiful weather conditioiis, there being a large attendance of memberis and friends. The races and treasure hunts proved very popular while all children reeeived fruit, sweets and ice cream, and •afternoon tea concluded a very happy day. "Card tables and crockery were purchased during the year. We held our second birthday on August 2 and visiting members from other branches were pre'sent aS well as ia large attendance of our own. the day being enjoyed by all. The rooms were prettily decorated with spring flowers for the occasion, and white rugs on the floor helped to make -the place more attractive. The committee and helpers served a dainty afternoon tea, thanks being due to the committee and all who so ably assisted, the president, secretary, and treasurer in the successful working of the branch.
