DERATING DISCUSSED AT FARMERS' UNION MEETING

A meeting of the Taneatua branch of the Farmers' Union was held in the Taneatua library on Wednesday. There was a fair attendance of members with Mr. Ruddick in the chair. The main subjeet for diseussion was derating of farm lands, which was ably discussed by the various members. Rating farm lands for roaaing purposes is a direct imposition, and it was agreea unanimously by the meeting that the user of the road should pay for its upkeep. It was decided to call a ratepayers' meeting at an early date to discuss the question of derating. The horse-power tax was discussed and referred to the sub-provincial conference for further consideration.
