GOLD SEEKING
(From Our Own Correspondent) .
OPOTIKI MEN STRIKE SURFACE COLOUR IN CLAIM.
Two young men from Opotiki who are on the West Coast gold prospectirig appear to have been biighly favoured by fortune. In the last three weeks they have; taken about 12 of an ounce of gold, including several nuggets, from a very small hole on the .surfaoe of their claim, and the indicationis are that the claim may be a very rich one indeed, as they work further. The young men concerned are Messrs. L. ia.nd C. Oarruthers, and they are working a claim n'ear Murchison in what is believed to be the old river hed of the Mangels River. Mr. ®. Oarruthers, wlho. has just retumed f}:om a holiday in that district, showed a "Post" representativle some six pennyweigfats of fin-e gold which had been recovered from the claim and also a nugget weighing three pennywieights wlhich has: been made into a tiepin. The finds have cause d considerable excitement in the Murchison district, as they were made quite near the surface and it is hoped that, as work proceeds, 'ihe claim will prove to be >a very valuable one.
