ELECTION OF OFFICERS

Opotiki, Saturday. At the annual meeting of the executive of the Opotild branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, ilield in the F,armers' Rooms on Saturday morning, there were present, Messrs. A. E. Martin (president), T. H. Pearson (siecretaiy), M. Stevenson, M. Anderson, J. R. Ju:d, W. Bradshaw, S. White, J. Dunlop, A. Forbes, R. H. Dickinson, A. McDonald, J. Fisher, K. Brown. On the motion of Mr. Martin the balanee sheet was adopted. The election of of ficers for the ensuing year resulfed iri Mr. A. E. Martin being re-elect«d president. Vice-pre-sidents (eleeted by ballot) were Messrs R. D. Loonoy, J. D. Jurd; secretary, Mr. T. H. Pearson (re-elect-ed) ; auditor Mr, J. T. Merry (re-ap-pointed). A vote of thanks was aecorded Mr. Merry, as auditor, for his work in -an honorary capacity during the year.

Mr. Martin proposed that all present form the eommittee. This was carried. Mr. R. D. Looney and Mr. J. Jurd extended thanks for their election as vice-presidents. The chairman advised that it would be necessary to appoint delegates to the provincial conference and Messrs Bradshaw, Locney, Jurd and Dunlop were elected to represent the braneh. Mr. Dunlop .asked if it was not possible to ask the local bakers to reduce the price of bread as the pvice of fiour had lieen reduced. In reply to a question by Mr. McDonald, the president advised that bread locally cost 61d cash and 7d booked. The president suggested that three men be ap])o nted ta interview the local bakers, This suggestion was approved and Messrs McDonald, Martin and Dunlop were instructed to investigate tbe position and report to a later meeiing. It was resolved to send a remit to the Bay of Plenty sub-provincial conference to the effect that the branch sub-provincial and provincial meetings should be the only reeognised ofncial union meetings in the province. The question of exchange was introduced by Mr. Brown, but the chairman stated that time was too -short to give anything more than a brief resume of the position.
