ANNUAL CONFERENCE EXECUTIYE OFFICBRS DISCUSS . LOCAL BODY AFFAIRS PRE,0(II>ENT RE-ELECTEID A hearty welcome to Rotorua, was j extended by the Mayor , Mr. T. Jackson, yesterday to th'e delegates attending the town cleiks' conference in the Borough Council Chambers. In the coux-se of his renrarks, he declaresthat as president of -the executive of the Muxxicipal Association he knew that during- the last year the town clerks had been faced with xnore difficult problems than ever before — problems in the solution of which no precedents were available. It was largely due to the good work of the town clerks that local bodies were sufficiently prosperou-s to be able to send delegates to the conference-. He approved of and ptfomised his support for th'e Local Government Offieers' Bi'll. He expressed his pleasure at seeing so many old friends present and also at finding new face-s among them. It was his sincere hope that -they would have a thoroughly enjoyable time while at the conference and h'e trusted that they would all be able to look baclc upon a happy time in Rotorua. The mayor then withdrew amidst applause- and the business of the meetinn nroceeded.
The president ,Mr. P. Skoglund) explained the provisions of the Local Government Offieers' Bill and declared that there was absolutely nothing in the measure to which any local body could take exception. After the adoption of the report, a vote of condolence was passed with Mrs. W. Stopfor'd in the loss of her husband. A vote of sympath'y was also passed with Mr. Robei*t Taylor, town clerk of Westport, in his -serious illness. Election of Offieers Mr. P. Skoglund was unanixnously re-elected president. Other offieers were appointed as follows: — Vicepresidents, Mes-srs J. F. Menzies, F. Hobbs, F. H. Denton (South Island), G. Murch, H. Wllson and J. R. Hax*die (North Island); committee, W. F. Sturman, B. S. Knox, N. Harding and J. Boris. with one to be appointed by the executive. Local Offieers' Bill On the motion of Mr. A. D. Jack it was decided that copies of the bill be placed by all town clexdcs in the hands of the members of Parliament in their district. A vote of thank-s was passed to the executive for its promotion of the measure and their attempts to have it introduced to Parliament. Subscription On the motion of the president the subscription for the year was fixed at 10/6.
