SEWERAGE SCHEME

• BIG SAYING SHOWN ON COMPLETED WORK. LESS THAN ESTIMATE. The following report was submitted by the drainage committee to the last meeting of the Rotorua Borough Council, and was adop-ted: — Now that the work in conneetion with the suburban sewerage scheme is practically completed, your committee has pleasure in submitting for the information of the council the following figures showing the estimated and actual cost of the work: — Estimated cost £33,360 Actual cost to Council .... £27,600

Saving to Council £5,760 Estimated cost to ratepayers to cover interest and sinking fund: — A sanitation fee of £2 per annum, plus a rate of .673d in the £, equal to 5s 7d per £100 C.Y. Actual rates levied are. — 1931-32, .4d in the £ (3s 4d) per £100) ; 1932-33 ,3d in the £ (2s 6d per £100). Plus sanitation fee of £2 per annum.

Included in the work which has been completed is the extension of the sewers to embrace portion of the south side of Grey Stret (it having been found possible to reticulate this area at present, instead of leaving it until a later date) and also portions of the land adjoining Malfroy Road, which are at present vacant, but for which plans of subdivislon have been submitted to and approved by the council. In view of the tremendous difficulties which were encountered at different stages of the work and with which the members of th'e council are fully conversant, your committee is of. opinion that the council has been fortunate in having had the work completed with the saving shown above. This saving is due in no small measure to the services of the drainage engineer.
