EXHIBITION RAMS

INSPECTION NECESSARY. It is gratifying to see (says the Christchurch Sun) that at last the Canterbury A. and P. Association, on the recommendation of the Corriedale Sheep Society, has decided to take steps to improve the class of Corriedale rams offered at the cominSg ram fairs by subjecting the entries to inspection. There has been a definite need for something of this 'S'ort for some years, particularly dm'ing the last two years, when the sale of Corriedales at the Show Grounds has heen rather a joke. In the first place, the entries were far in excess of requirements, and in addition to that very many of them were simply masquerading under the name of Corriedale. The efforts of the auctioneers to sell them were a waste of time. Rams that showed the essential bred characteristics were the only ones in which the bulk of buyers were interested, and in a big offering, they formed a comparatively small proportion. It is to he hoped that the examination of the rams will be carried out laccording reasonahly rigid standards, as this will certainly help to reduce the ever-increasinig traffic in the undesirable types. • j The same system might also with advantage be -applied to the South- I down ram®.
