STRIKES AN OBSTRUCTION WHEN DIVING IN RIVER Christchurch, Tuesday. John Sewell Devan, aged 19 years, of Upper Riccarton, when diving in the Waimakariri River to-day, struelc an obstruction and broke his neck. He was dead when the body was recovered shortly after. Dev?m, who was bathing with a companion, dived into the water, but did not re-appear. His companion went for help to the Belfast police station, but when he returned Dervan's body had already been recovered by three men who had hurried to the scene.
