PENALTY ON POWELL IN DARGAVILLE CASE INCREASED Auckland, Tuesday. A further development in connection with the Dargaville disqualification case occurred when the Auckland District Racing Committee increased the sentence on Cyril R. Powell of Whangarei, from disqualification for three years to disqualification for 'life. The original sentence of three years was imposed by the judicial council of the Dargaville Racing Club on the ground that Powell was guilty of corrupt and fraudulent practice within the meaning of the rules of racing, by conspiring to assist Tetrachate to win the President's Handicap at Dargaville on December 3. The District Committee called on Powell to show why the sentence should not be increased, and he was present at to-day's meeting. Powell' is a brother of R. A. Powell of Dargaville, owner of Bronze Tray, which ran unplaced in the raee.
